Mind, Heart and Body.

If you don't put your mind and heart where your body is then you're either dreaming or dead. Tonight, after losing to Trabzonspor 2-1 at home just like last season, we saw that our minds and hearts from head to toe were not on the pitch of Şeref Bey Stadium.

In four days we will play the first leg of maybe the single most important game since the quarter final feat of 2004 in UEFA Cup. Even though I think the main reason(s) are different, this match-up may seem the biggest excuse of the night. Nevertheless, from tactical board to physical condition Beşiktaş was not ready even just a little bit, which shows in statistics of the game as well. The game could have easily finished by a margin of 5 or 6 goals in favor of Trabzonspor.

Before we even dwell into the tactical mistakes, I wanted to point one major thing which took place when Toraman was substituted out in second half. He saw his number up, started to jog towards the sidelines and took off the captain armband handing it to Necip to pass it on. Necip, then asked whom he should have hand the armband to and Toraman's answer and body language was obviously neglective of the youngster. Necip then looked around for a candidate, moved towards Sivok at first, but then the almighty Q7 got the captaincy band at last, skipping Sivok, Ernst and other deserved parties. This simply shows that the team doesn't even have a true leader who takes responsibility in every way possible and sticks everyone together. While everyone else busted their buttocks back in December and January, Quaresma was using his winter holiday with an injury mask in front of it. And this guy becomes the captain? Give me a break...

Anyways, why do we even talk about these? Think about a club which is in a tremendous debt and may even face a punishment by UEFA very soon. Think about a club that had have a hated president whom have acted like a sole owner, messed up everything humanly possible from the soul of the club to the finances, ran away like a wall street CEO, who gets a promotional package instead of getting fired. Think about a club that have morphed into a training ground for one infamous Gestifute management company. Think about a club that half of the squad consists of 6 Portuguese players whom picks and play only when they wish. Think about a trainer who insists on playing the very same players even though they do not perform well, or chose not to perform well. With all of these mentioned above, I think it is a miracle that this team is still in top 4 level in the so called super league.

Now, let's get back on the field. Before we start raising our voices towards the back line, we should look and raise our eyebrows to those who supposed to help them in the first place. Ernst and Necip did everything they could but Necip's incredible decline continues and Ernst simply can not cope with the entire midfield just by himself. Q7 on one side did not come back to help not even once, nor did Almeida up front. Ersan and Sidnei did everything that they could do to show that they were not ready even a bit for the first team. Yeah Egemen was missed, so did Veli and Cenk's first half performance was a chapter from the horror story of an all time best seller. I really don't even know where to start and where to finish actually. Indeed, we were horrible from start to finish and Trabzonspor got a very well deserved victory in the end.

Maybe the only nice thing about last night was the spectator crowd, whom were only women and children thanks to the late federation's stupid gender biased punishment innovation and they got disappointed once more after their presence back in Mersin İdman Yurdu meeting about a month ago. Their chant in the dying minutes of the game was very smart indeed, questioning Carvalhal about the performance of the team by asking "why the team does not play". This was also done back in the second season of Mustafa Denizli and even then, the team performed much better than today. Especially remembering a 1-1 draw back in 2009 against the very same opponents of tonight and I think to myself, what a wonderful team that was...

In the end, I will come to conclusion the way I opened my post. Our players, trainers, absentee club officials and even most of our spectators do not have the minds and hearts for Beşiktaş and unless this changes a bit, we will definitely see a much darker side of the football in our very own backyard.
